New Delhi, Saturday, September 30, 2017: Bibi Russell, internationally acclaimed fashion designer from Bangladesh will be presenting Rajasthan Khadi at the upcoming season of India Runway Week Winter Festive 2017.The three-day event will be held from October 6 to October 8 at the DLF Place, Saket, New Delhi.
The highlight of the show will be designs made with 100% Khadi by skilled weavers of Bikaner and it will be a tribute to Mahatma Gandhi. The show has been curated by Bibi Russell, who will also be presenting her collection for the second time at India Runway Week. Bibi Russell said “I want to explore the diversity of the fabric and contextualize it in today’s world. The idea of presenting Rajasthan Khadi is to get the younger generation to appreciate their countryman’s produce.”
It is said that Rajasthan Khadi and Village Industries Board is setting an example by creating new opportunities and making it profitable for weavers by giving them a definitive source of employment while making the best use of available resources.
The Founder, Indian Federation for Fashion Development, Avinash Pathania stated, “Associating with Rajasthan Khadifor one of the show at the India Runway Week Winter festive 2017 is in continuation of our commitment to promote weavers of India. Khadiis hidden wonders will be unveiled by Bibi Russell, who will translate its story through the magnificent swirls of fabric,”
Bibi Russell said in a statement “It’s a great pleasure to get associated with one of the biggest fashion platform in India and showcase my collection in front of these young talented designers. My collection is 100% Khadi made by the incredible weavers of Bikaner and it’s a tribute to Mahatma Gandhi. I made this collection in Rajasthan on the invitation of government of Rajasthan”
About Bibi Russell: Bibi Russell, born in 1950, is a Bangladeshi fashion designer and former international model.Having returned to Bangladesh in 1994, Russell opened Bibi Productions, a fashion house, fusing indigenous Bengali cultural elements into her line. Russell was rewarded Cross of Officer of the Order of Queen Isabella by the King of Spain. It was presented by Spanish Ambassador to Bangladesh, Arturo Perez Martinez. Russell is also a Fellow of Bangla Academy.The Asiaweek magazine highlighted her as “One of the 20 people to watch in the Millennium”. She was awarded the Honorary Fellowship of the London Institute in 1999. UNESCO awarded her the title Designer for Development in 1999. She also got the title of Artist for Peace by the UNESCO in 2001 and the Peace Prize by the United Nations Associations of Spain in 2004.
